Macys is perhaps the most iconic American retailer.
Not only that, but up to not so long ago the Macy’s return policy was one of the best out there, allowing customers to return their Macy’s items in 180 days.
That’s a LOT!
Unfortunately for us shopaholics, that is not the case anymore.
How Many Days Do I Have To Return A Product To Macy’s?
Today, Macy’s Return Policy allows you to change your mind about your order within a 90 days timeframe from the date of purchase.
How Do I Return The Items To Macy’s?
Most products bought at Macy’s, whether online or at one of the stores, can be returned 1 of 2 ways:
- Return by mail.
- Return to one of the stores near you.
There are some (ok, many…) exceptions though, and we will detail it below.
As stated in the Macys return policy, items must be in their original and saleable condition, and include the original tags.
Can I Return All Macy’s Items?
Per Macy’s return policy, some items purchased at a Macy’s store cannot be returned, refunded or exchanged.
For others, the return policy is different than the regular 90 days.

What Are The Other Exceptions To Macys Return Policy?
Unfortunately for the confused customer, there are quite a few exceptions to Macy’s return policy.
We’ve listed them down:
Macy’s Apple Products Returns:
Per Macy’s return policy, Apple products are eligible for return within 14 days
Note that Apple products bought in stores can be returned to the specific Macy’s stores that are selling Apple products;
While Apple items purchased online can be returned both by mail, or at applicable stores.
Macy’s Returns – Area Rugs:
Area Rugs ordered online: Returns can only be made by mail, and cannot be returned to store, and you’ll need to organize the return within 30 days.
Returns of oversized rugs based on preference will be charged a $99 restocking fee. .
Area Rugs bought in-store: Returns can be made within 7 days only from receipt.
You can contact Macy’s 888-241-8288 to arrange a pickup for the return.
Macy’s Backstage Merchandise Returns:
Can be returned to a Macy’s Backstage store within 30 days.
Macy’s Designer Products Returns:
This is somewhat difficult to follow.
Here’s the brands list and terms for return to Macy’s:
- Gucci, Longchamp & Tous – 14 days for return, and only to a Macy’s store carrying the brands.
- Alexandre London – custom orders are not eligible for return or for exchange.
- Burberry – 30 days for return. For sale merchandise – 14 days, to Macy’s Herald Square. All should include Burberry tags attached and, where applicable, hygiene seal attached. Will be accepted only with original receipt.
- Louis Vuitton – 30 days, at Macy’s Herald Square
Macy’s Return Policy for Dresses:
Can be returned within 60 days : New, in saleable condition and with tags attached.
Will not be accepted worn, altered, or with tags removed
Macy’s Jewelry Return Policy (& Watches):
Macy’s Jewelry return policy is traditionally 60 days.
The returned Jewel or watch will undergo a 14 days inspection, and only once passing the inspection a credit will be issued.
Special order products and jewelry items that have been altered for size are non-returnable.
Finish Line Shoes:
Can be returned within 45 days.
Last Act Products:
Can be returned with price tags attached within 30 days.
Macy’s Eyewear Return Policy:
Can be returned in 30 days.
Macy’s Lighting Return Policy:
Can be returned 30 days for, in coordination with customer service (not to Macy’s stores).
Shipping fees and surcharges will not be refunded, and a 15% restocking fee will apply.
Returning Macy’s Maternity items:
Can be returned to the vendor (and not to Macy’s stores) by mail only, in 30 days.
Returning Personal Care Items & Small Electrics Returns
Can be returned within 60 days.
Returning Tech Accessories:
Can be returned within 14 days
Returning Tech Watches:
Can be returned within 30 days.
Macy’s Mattress Return Policy:
Macy’s request is to allow some time to adjust to the mattress. If still not satisfied, you can return the Mattress within 120 days by coordinating the return with Macy’s Customer Service.
Mattress shipping fees won’t be refunded. In addition, a 15% return fee will be charged.
Macy’s mattress return policy allows you one return only.
How Does Macy’s Online Return Policy Work?
As per Macy’s online return policy, returning an item by mail is easy.
These are the steps you need to take for a smooth return:
- Log on to your account on Macys.com where you made the purchase.
- Navigate to the Orders page in the ‘My Account’ section.
- Enter the Order Number in the search bar.
- Go to order details and click on the option “Return Item”.
- Enter the reason for the return.
- Choose the refund method.
- Confirm the submission. Your return request will be placed.
- After placing the return request, get a print of the mailing label and stick it on the package box.
- Carry the package to the nearest UPS drop-off location.
- Macy’s will receive your item/s and initiate the refund or exchange as applicable.

If you reside in the USA or its neighboring locations, Macys cover your shipment costs!

Take the item for return along with the receipt to the nearest Macy’s store.
If you lost the receipt, it can be generated through the payment method or from the packing slip or return label.
In case the receipt doesn’t get generated for some reason, you can still get the refund in the form of store credit.
Macy’s Refund Policy – How Does It Work?
If you have your original receipt, the credit card you used and the return label / packing slip, you will be refunded in the original form of payment.
If your return was a gift and you have the gift receipt, a return label or a bridal registry no., you will be refunded in a store credit.
If you don’t have proof of purchase, you may still be eligible for store credit.
In this case, it will be calculated per the item’s lowest selling price in the last 180 days.
I Returned My Order. When Will I Get My Refund?
Macy’s Return Without Receipt Policy: Can I Still Get A Refund?
In case you have lost the receipt, there’s no need to worry.
The Macy’s return without receipt policy allows you to get the refund anyway.
Your receipt info can usually be retrieved for up to 2 years from purchase!
The purchase info will be looked up for you.
You will therefore get a refund to your original account or a store credit.
In case Macy’s are unable to find your receipt, you will get a store credit for the product’s lowest store price in the last 180 days.
